Sprinkler head connectors link sub-surface lateral HDPE piping with pop-up sprinkler bodies. Traditionally, rigid risers or basic PVC fittings were standard. However, ground settling, thermal expansion, and mechanical stress from turf equipment often caused rigid PVC pipes to crack at the junction.
Today, the industry uses flexible PP compression fittings and swing joint assemblies. These modern connectors absorb mechanical shock and allow simple height adjustment during landscaping. They rely on multi-component compression systems: a polypropylene body, a high-durability NBR/EPDM O-ring, a polyacetal (POM) split ring, and a compression nut. When tightened, the split ring clamps the HDPE pipe, and the O-ring seals under pressure, ensuring a leak-proof connection without chemical solvents.
