What is the difference between PN10 and PN16 pressure ratings?
PN indicates the nominal pressure class (Pressure Nominal) measured in bar. A PN10 fitting is rated for a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar (1.0 MPa) at 20°C. A PN16 fitting is rated for up to 16 bar (1.6 MPa) under the same temperature conditions. High-stress water systems, municipal main lines, and high-rise commercial structures generally require PN16-rated valves and fittings to manage potential pressure surges.
Can PP compression fittings be used directly for drinking water pipelines?
Yes, provided they are made from virgin PP polymers and certified by recognized drinking water authorities. Ningbo Minde’s compression fittings are CE certified and carry British WRAS approval. How does the ambient temperature affect plastic valves and pipes?
Polypropylene and polyethylene are temperature-sensitive thermoplastics. At lower temperatures (down to -10°C), plastic becomes less flexible and more prone to impact damage. At higher temperatures (above 40°C), the maximum allowable working pressure decreases below the nominal rating. Our fittings are designed to operate safely between -10°C and 50°C.
Do your compression fittings require special tools for installation?
No, one of the primary advantages of PP compression fittings is tool-free or low-tool assembly. Small sizes (20mm to 50mm) can generally be hand-tightened. For larger dimensions (63mm to 110mm), a standard strap wrench is recommended to ensure the nut fully compresses the split ring and compresses the O-ring around the pipe wall.
